RAZR Camera analysis
I shot the huge scene posted above again in 3 sizes, all at the same Quality setting of Fine.
In most camera documentation, resolution relates to memory used and Quality relates to Jpeg compression. But what I suspect the phone is doing is multiplying pixels to give the illusion of high resolution. It's the same as using a 2X or 3X multiplier in any digital camera. Quality suffers at every incrementing step.
So the secret to get the best quality this camera can offer is to discover the cameras real maximum resolution without using a math multiplier; then never use anything higher; (Outside of using Photoshop that is.... ). \
So in this image of my beautiful lavender tree and car. The three image file Quality set to FINE on all three and the 4 available resolution file sizes go as follows:
1280X1024: 298kb huge
640X480: 135kb Big
320X240: 32kb Small
160X120: 9kb Tiny
Here they are: downloaded by BitPim in order as listed above:
Tiny

Small

Big

I won't pate the Huge one. But you can see what is going on here. Now I havn't opened thease in Photoshop yet, but my eye is telling me the Tiny 160X120 is the max native resolution for this camera and everything else looks multiplied.
Thats all folks. The original files are here >
